Movements Newark Concert reviews
Repetitive numbers and a lack of creativity
I've seen the Rockettes since the late 1980s. The show is slow and lags during certain scenes, especially with the great musicians who are an integral part of the show. The dance numbers are all a bit repetitive. But the Rockettes are featured more frequently, and Santa narrates the show, which is great. Every year there is less and less Christmas music identifiable to the audience, and tradition counts for Christmas. This year the orchestra really played second fiddle - it was much better when they rode up and across the stage and sat high above the ice skaters, bringing back the Carol of the Bells. That was the kind of drama only the RC stage could bring an audience, and every year the Nativity is water-downed some more. Of course the show has to evolve, and it gave focus to these.
